About Jesal V. Popat, MD, FACC

Dr. Jesal Popat is an interventional cardiologist at Florida Medical Clinic. Originally from South Africa, he has lived in the Tampa Bay area for over 17 years. Dr. Popat is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and multiple other subdisciplines. An active Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, he specializes in a ā€œradial-artery firstā€ approach to coronary catheterization procedures minimizing risks and improving outcomes. Dr. Popat is a lifelong vegetarian, his clinical practice focuses as much on prevention through proper nutrition and cardiovascular exercise as the treatment of cardiac disease.

Dr. Popat graduated with honors from the University of South Florida with degrees in Biology and Chemistry before attending the Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at Tampa General Hospital, Pepin Heart Institute, and the James A. Haley VA hospitals.

He devotes time to working with several local non-profit agencies, including the Tampa Bay chapters of the American Heart Association, the University of South Florida STEM academy and Best Buddies organizations. In his personal life, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball, tennis and reading.

I met Dr. Popat while in Florida Hospital and really liked him. I have been seen in his office twice and am very impressed. His medical assistant, Alyssa, is excellent. She asks a lot of questions and seems very interested in keeping my chart up-to-date and keeping me informed about my care. She always returns my phone calls. I know I always have a lot of questions for Dr. Popat, but he always takes the time to answer them and doesnā€™t seem to mind answering them.

"Dr Popat has a very good bedside manner."

Was referred to Dr Popat through my family physician after an abnormal EKG. Dr Popat has a very good bedside manner. Spends time with the patient explaining things. I was scheduled to have hip surgery which was eventually delayed pending the results of a heart cauterization. I often have anxiety when undergoing medical procedures. Dr Popat worked with me to reduce my anxiety and get me through the heart procedure. It is rare to find a physician or specialist with such good "people skills". I highly recommend Dr Popat for any heart related issue/procedure.
