Dr. Guttentag on Health Matters

Truly Blessed

My compliments to Dr. Guttentag, his surgical team and office staff for the successful replacement of my right knee on 10/10/2023. I was off pain meds after a week and at my 15 day post operation, he removed me from home nurse and PT and I transferred to outpatient PT. I am allowed to drive my car and I do not have to sleep on my back. Our next follow up is 11/22 and my goal is to have full ROM and we hopefully book surgery for replacement of my left knee. I am truly blessed to have Dr. Guttentag as my surgeon!

At first I was hesitant about seeing yet another physician because I've experienced some not so good interactions with an ARNP recently in another office. I saw his ARNP first and she was very pleasant and thorough. Then I met Dr. Guttentag and my concerns were decreased. He came in with a very outgoing, laid back, easy personality. It was my very first visit and he made me feel very comfortable and he listened to my worries about my health. I would recommend Dr. Guttentag because his bedside manner is above what I expected. Thank you Dr. Guttentag for seeing me, the patient, and listening patiently.... Read More +

He was a referral to me from my dentist and it was the best referral ever. I was terrified of a total knee replacement and Dr. Guttentag has done both my knees and both are doing excellent. He is phenomenal and I just hope I don’t drive him too crazy but he is just absolutely amazing. He is a very gifted man and his staff is also very very wonderful. They make you feel very comfortable and go out of their way to make sure that everything is going well for you. I feel blessed to have met them and especially Dr. Guttentag. 10Stars +++++

Dr. Guttentag is truly the Best of the Best when it comes to shoulder repair. I put all my faith in him after all I’ve heard from other doctors. Whatever he did, he found the root of my problem and repaired it within a very small time frame. I have not felt this way in several years. Thank you Dr. Guttentag. Barney L.

Without a doubt the best orthopedic surgeon you can choose! Two weeks after total knee surgery I was able to resume all of my activities with little or no pain,

"I Have My Life Back!"

For 18 months I suffered with swelling and pain in my right knee. Back in January 2020 elective surgeries were not allowed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so I went with stem cell which promised me noninvasive relief. It was very expensive and nine months later my knee was just as swollen and painful as before. What a waste of time and money! When I realized this was not going to work, I contacted Dr. Guttentag at Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health. On July 9, 2021 I had my total knee replacement performed by him and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I have my life back! I can now walk with my 1 year old granddaughter that is walking as well! Hiking, bike riding and all of my old favorite activities are now possible. Thank you Dr. Guttentag for making me whole again!... Read More +

"I figured, if this Dr. does surgery on elite athletes like the Lightning, then he’s as good as I’ll be able to get."

Dr. Guttentag, I’m writing this to thank you for fixing my knee. I injured it while going through Air Assault school when I was 19. The Army surgeon tried to fix it without success. 3 months later I went to Afghanistan with the infantry. It was always loose. I had to constantly think about it and favor it, even while ruck marching and getting shot at. After 1 year of deployment, countless field activities, Recon school, and another year of Special Forces selection and training, they tried to fix it again It didn’t work. It was still loose, and I deployed again 7 months later to Afghanistan with 7th Group Special Forces. I remember distinctly, one day, I was on top of a mud hut with a sniper riffle and came under heavy fire. RPHs and bullets were whizzing by my head and I thought this was it, I’m going to die. Even with all that on my mind, when I went to jump down and get some cover, I still had to stop a second and think, “hold on, go slow, don’t hurt the knee”. After 7 years of service, I asked another army surgeon if he thought I should get it fixed. He said that it would cause too much arthritis and to leave it alone. So, for the next 7 years I did that and felt it loose. I tried to get back in shape and was struggling with the instability when I had enough and looked up private surgeons. I figured, if this Dr. does surgery on elite athletes like the Lightning, then he’s as good as I’ll be able to get. Immediately after surgery, I could feel the difference. I had an endpoint. Now, 9 months later, I’m back to squatting 185, which is good for me at this point, and when I run, it feels solid. It doesn’t feel loose anymore. It’s 100% different. I didn’t know this was possible. For the first time in 16 years I feel like I can get back to normal. It may tear again, I don’t care, just these 9 months and knowing that it could be fixed again is worth the time, money, and effort for me. I am so grateful to you for fixing this. You were successful where others failed. You’re a real Doctor. The real deal. When you go to work you should walk with your head held high. I’ve included a picture of my time in service that you can use if you want to get more business. If any of this will help you, use it, just only use my first name. Thanks again for helping me. You really changed my life. Respectfully, James... Read More +

"I’ve recommended them to others!"

This is my second knee replacement. I was nervous about having “fast track” same day release. I am feeling great and glad The Dr. scheduled the surgery this way. My first procedure went great and I’m sure this one will be successful. Dr. Guttentag and the entire hospital and rehabilitation staff were quite professional. I’ve Recommended them to others!

"Superior surgeon."

Quick recovery, no visible scar, no pain other than the anesthesia reaction immediately after surgery. Dr. Guttentag was very pleasant to talk with and I had great post operative care from him and the hospital. My husband and I would recommend him to anyone who needed a total knee replacement and other surgeries in his specialty. Superior surgeon.

"I celebrated my ten week follow up with a 100 mile bike ride"

On December 11th, I had a partial knee replacement and everything turned out great. I was off the walker after the second day and haven't looked back since. I was back on my bike by the third week and celebrated my ten week follow up with a hundred mile bike ride. I really can't tell a difference between the implant and my normal knee. I'm still a little numb but it's getting better every day. The fact that I recovered so quickly is a testament to the skill of the surgeon and his team.

"Dr. Guttentag provides the absolute best orthopedic treatment that anyone can receive"

Outstanding care and excellent service by Dr. Guttentag and his entire team. Now I know how it feels to get VIP treatment. Throughout the entire process of getting knee replacement surgery, I felt I was being cared for by an experienced, professional and caring orthopedic medical team. My positive experience extended from my initial visit, pre-op preparation and education and continued throughout the subsequent surgery, hospital stay and recovery. I had a lot of anxiety in the beginning but it quickly went away after receiving high-quality care and compassion in every step of the process. Dr. Guttentag patiently answered every question I had throughout the process and compassionately explained the entire procedure so that I not only understood what was going to happen but felt comfortable and confident that I would have a complete recovery. After having been in healthcare for more than 10 years I can honestly say that Dr. Guttentag provides the absolute best orthopedic treatment that anyone can receive. I highly recommend him and and his entire staff to anyone seeking the best orthopedic care available. Many thanks to you Dr. Guttentag for the VIP treatment I received.... Read More +

"A doctor I really admire"

Dr. Ira Guttentag is a doctor I really admire. He is a very skilled and caring surgeon who has operated on my knees twice. Both times have been good experiences. This time I am only four weeks out from surgery and doing well. Yesterday, I went up and down our 17-step staircase three times with only having to touch the handrail. Dr. Guttentag is no nonsense, but if you pay attention to what he says, this is very doable.

"Thank you does not seem enough."

Like many others, I struggled with knee pain for several years and did the gambit of shots. I met with Dr Guttentag and was scheduled for bilateral knee replacements. I had the first one done Dec 2014 and the second one March 2015. The first knee I was in the hospital two nights and the second knee just overnight. I was up walking the next morning and doing physical therapy. Both knees were a success and I walked into the first ten day post op appointments using a cane for balance only. It is now the end of April, I am back to swimming and riding my bicycle with minimal scarring or pain. I really like Dr Guttentag's post op plan of care. He is conservative with compression socks and wraps and makes sure one has adequate pain medicine. I think his belief in using the continuous passive machine (CPM) for exercising the knee the first three weeks is a key element for successful flexion and extension of the knee. I can bend my knee further than I have been able to in several years. I have two hiking trips scheduled for this summer and I look forward to both of them thanks to Dr Guttentag. I also want to give a high five to his clinic staff. From Xray, to technicians, to Dena in scheduling and his Physician Assistant Riordan..... all were so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond. Thank you does not seem enough.... Read More +

"Thank you so much for my new knees"

Dr. Guttentag- Thank you so much for my new knees. I will take care of them and do them proud when I return to my favorite activities. I also want to extend a huge Thank you to your clinic staff... PA Riordan and the young gentleman doing dressings changes and check ins were super and willingly answered my questions. The X-Ray technician, Todd, was so good especially with patient rapport. So friendly and acts like he wants to be there and be happy. Never treated you like another patient. Dena is the best. Again, so friendly and engaging and helpful and supportive. I could go on and on. THANK YOU does not seem enough- but I am so grateful. Also, thank you for letting me go home the next day after surgery. Have a great summer and I will say it- GO LIGHTNING!... "You're a great surgeon and a great doctor"

"I highly recommend Dr. Guttentag"

Glad I listened to Dr. Guttentag!! After my primary care physician told me I needed surgery for what he thought was a “bone spur” with built up cartilage in my ankle that wouldn’t allow me to play sports, I thought I might need a second opinion. I was referred to Dr. Guttentag at Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health from a friend. My initial consultation went well. After the x-ray Dr. Guttentag asked me to walk around the room. He noticed how pronated my walk was and recommended to do physical therapy and get orthotics before thinking of surgery. Glad I listened to him. The “bone spur” turned out to be an inflamed tendon that was swollen from playing sports and being pronated. I trusted Dr. Guttentag from his experience with the Tampa Bay Lighting so I knew he was familiar with sports injuries. I highly recommend Dr. Guttentag and Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health....
