Dr. Derek Gonzalez is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in complex spinal disorders, and his expertise includes:
Dr. Gonzalez believes in listening to his patients and working with them on a treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. He uses nonsurgical or minimally invasive techniques whenever possible with the goal of easing pain and restoring function.
Dr. Gonzalez’s Training
Dr. Gonzalez earned a bachelor’s degree in biological science at the University of Florida in Gainesville, graduating cum laude. He received his medical degree with high honors from Florida International University in Miami and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health in New York City, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Gonzalez’s training continued with a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
About Dr. Gonzalez
Dr. Gonzalez has published research on multiple topics including the latest advances in complex robotic spinal surgery, and he has taught and lectured medical students and staff. His professional memberships include the North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Medical Association.
Dr. Gonzalez is a Tampa native.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, fishing and kayaking.
