Dr. Lorna Fountain is the director, where she also leads curriculum development. Her dedication to teaching residents and students inspired her to join the faculty in 2007 and to take on the role of program director in 2016. Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Fountain is a practicing physician with a special interest in women’s health, obstetrics, breastfeeding, critical care, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, and pediatrics.
Dr. Fountain received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg and her medical degree from the University of South Florida. She completed her family medicine residency at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where she served as chief resident and concentrated on areas such as ambulatory pediatrics, inpatient and outpatient medicine, sports medicine, and women’s health. Dr. Fountain furthered her expertise in curriculum development through a faculty development fellowship at Michigan State University and completed the National Institute for Program Director Development fellowship.
In addition to her roles in education and curriculum, Dr. Fountain is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is working toward becoming a fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. Dr. Fountain also holds academic appointments at the University of South Florida and Florida State University College of Medicine and is a national speaker for the AAFP.
