Jesal V. Popat, MD, FACC, is an interventional and preventive cardiologist at Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health. Originally from South Africa, he has called Tampa Bay home for more than 26 years. He holds board certifications in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Popat’s philosophy centers on listening carefully, explaining clearly, and building a trusted partnership with each patient. He combines evidence-based medicine with personalized care, taking time to discuss treatment goals, risks, and alternatives so patients can make informed decisions about their health.
With a strong focus on nutrition, Dr. Popat considers prevention an essential part of cardiovascular care. He helps patients translate healthy habits including plant-focused nutrition, regular cardiovascular and resistance exercise, restorative sleep, and appropriate hydration into practical, sustainable changes. His goal is to empower patients to take an active role in improving their long-term health.
When procedures are needed, Dr. Popat favors a radial-first approach to cardiac catheterization, accessing the heart through an artery in the wrist. His practice combines minimally invasive treatment and advanced cardiac imaging with a commitment to prevention.
Dr. Popat graduated with honors from the University of South Florida with degrees in biology and chemistry before attending the USF Morsani College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine and cardiovascular disease training at Tampa General Hospital, Pepin Heart Institute, and James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital.
Outside of work, he enjoys working on classic cars, playing basketball, and reading.
