A Message from Our CEO: How We Give Back During COVID-19

Joe Delatorre, CEO

During this pandemic, it’s more important than ever to keep our communities strong and lend a hand where we can. For us, helping our patients is just the beginning of our dedication to the people we serve.

Florida Medical Clinic CEO Joe Delatorre wants to share more information about the Foundation of Caring, how we’re giving back, and how you can get involved during our next event.

About the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring

In 2005, after years of informal donations and community involvement, we established the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring (FMCFOC), a 501(c)(3) with the sole purpose of giving back to the communities we serve. Read our mission statement.

The FMCFOC aims to use passionate volunteers and generous funding initiatives to assist organizations and families throughout Hillsborough and Pasco Counties.

Our volunteers are made up of doctors, nurses, management team, friends, and family members who help lead events and spread awareness of important topics affecting the local community.

How We’re Making a Difference

Through the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring, we partner with local nonprofit organizations to leverage resources to create immediate and ongoing positive changes in Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. Unlike many other medical foundations, FMCFOC is not self-serving. None of the funds raised benefit Florida Medical Clinic.

Through our carefully vetted granting initiatives and volunteer services, FMCFOC has reinvested over $3.1 million into 162 different local nonprofits and contributed thousands of volunteer hours since our inception in 2005.

We’ve helped thousands of people over the last fifteen years, including those served by local food drives, Boys & Girls Clubs, and homeless organizations. As families struggle in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, we recognize that lending a hand is more important than ever.

How You Can Give Back

Our lives have all been changed by the global coronavirus pandemic. You may be wondering how you can also help others during such a difficult time.

Fortunately, there are many ways to give back using whatever resources are available to you—whether that’s your time, money, or skills. Here are a few ideas:

  • Volunteer. You can lend a hand providing critical services in your community by volunteering for organizations like food banks, shelters, libraries, and more. If you want to learn about volunteering for FMCFOC, click here.
  • Give money. If you’re financially able, donating to local organizations can have a direct impact on the people around you. Donate to FMCFOC here.
  • Donate blood or plasma. With hospitals struggling to handle the surge of patients, your donation of blood or plasma could save a life. If you were diagnosed with COVID-19 and recovered, the American Red Cross urges you to donate plasma because it may contain powerful antibodies to help fight the pandemic. Healthy individuals can donate plasma as often as every 28 days. If you have not had COVID-19, you can still give blood! The Red Cross continues to have an emergency need for blood donors, and just one donation can save up to three patient lives.
  • Raise awareness. Your voice is more powerful than you think. Speak up about issues affecting your community with your friends, family, and online. Share donation and volunteering opportunities through social media.

While you’re giving back to your community, don’t forget to care for your loved ones, too. Remember to make time for your friends and family—and call or video chat with those you can’t see in person.
