If you have deposits of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, liposuction may be an appropriate surgery for you. Liposuction removes localized deposits of fat to smooth and contour, making your body more proportionate. Although liposuction has been characterized as a minor procedure, it is a surgical procedure with benefits and risks. The benefits may be maximized and the risks minimized by choosing a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in performing the procedure.
Dr. Redmon has been performing liposuction for over 30 years. Although many physicians perform liposuction, their experience and qualifications vary widely. Ask your physician if they are residency trained in plastic surgery and liposuctioning. Also ask if they are credentialed to perform this procedure at the hospital where they have priviledges. Dr. Redmon is both residency trained in Plastic Surgery and liposuctioning, and credentialed to perform this procedure at multiple medical facilities.
During your consultation, we will review your goals and expectations. There are variations available with the procedure, and Dr. Redmon will evaluate and discuss the pros and cons of these to tailor the procedure to your particular needs.
Liposuction removes fat using a canula (tube) connected to a vacuum source. Variations to the procedure involve the addition of fluids and adrenaline to the area to be suctioned to aid in fat removal and minimize blood loss. The procedure is done in an accredited ambulatory surgery center under sedation or general anesthesia. You will wear a supportive garment after surgery to minimize swelling and speed recovery. You can return to light activity in a few days and normal activity in 1 to 2 weeks. During your consultation, Dr. Redmon will discuss your goals for the procedure.
