Minimally Invasive Surgery Partial Knee Replacement

Partial Knee Replacement for Individuals with Arthritis of the Knee

A partial knee replacement may be recommended by your orthopaedic surgeon if nonsurgical therapies have proven ineffective after several months. Joint replacement is especially beneficial for patients who have knee arthritis that only affects one part of the knee – typically, the medial compartment – so the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are preserved, keeping the majority of the knee structure intact. This allows the joint to bend and function as naturally as possible, helping retain range of motion.

At Florida Medical Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine & Spine, we’re committed to using the most innovative and effective techniques to improve our patients’ lives. Dr. Ira Guttentag, M.D., F.A.C.S., takes a minimally invasive, outpatient approach to partial knee replacements, allowing his patients to recover faster and more fully than those undergoing traditional procedures.

Dr. Guttentag uses the Oxford® Partial Knee implant from Biomet Orthopedics for all replacement surgeries. This pioneering implant is:

  • The only fully mobile-bearing partial knee system available in the United States currently
  • The first partial implant to be designed with an artificial meniscal bearing, allowing the implant to glide easily and replicate natural movement
  • Built with moveable plastic bearings, providing a low wear rate and potentially leading to a long life expectancy

An Oxford Partial Knee implant also offers various advantages over total knee replacements, such as the fact that the replacement requires the removal of 75 percent less bone and cartilage. Plus, surgery tends to be quicker and most patients experience less postoperative pain and scarring.

If you’d like to find out if you’re a candidate for an Oxford Partial Knee replacement, contact Florida Medical Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine & Spine today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Guttentag.
