EEG

EEGs are used to diagnose neurological conditions such as:

• Alzheimer’s disease
• Brain tumors
• Concussions and other traumatic head injuries
• Dementia
• Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
• Encephalopathy (abnormal brain function)
• Narcolepsy and other sleep disorders

An EEG typically takes between 20 to 60 minutes to complete, although some can take up to three hours. To conduct this test, a technician will place several small metal discs (electrodes) on the scalp, then connect the discs to an instrument that monitors and records brain waves. While relaxing with your eyes closed for most of the test, we may ask you to complete simple tasks such as looking at a picture or reading a few sentences aloud while the EEG is being administered.
