Chemotherapy

Expert treatment. Compassionate care.

Chemotherapy is often a key part of cancer treatment, but it takes an expert to determine which medications to prescribe for specific diagnoses.

At Florida Medical Clinic, we have a team of experienced medical oncologists ā€“ physicians who specialize in using chemotherapy medications to treat cancer ā€“ as well as infusion nurses and other specially trained medical professionals.

We offer a full spectrum of chemotherapy medications. Our medical oncologists take into consideration a number of factors when determining which medications to prescribe, such as:

  • The specific type of cancer with which the patient has been diagnosed.
While there are many chemotherapy medications that can treat several different conditions, itā€™s important to select the one that is proven most effective for your specific diagnosis.
  • The cellular makeup of the patientā€™s tumor.
Even within one specific category of cancers, such as lung cancer, there are a number of different types identified by the specific cells that make up the tumors. Our medical oncologists can determine which drugs are most likely to be effective based on the cellular characteristics of a specific tumor.
  • The patientā€™s previous response to chemotherapy (if applicable).
If you have previously completed one or more rounds of chemo, your initial response can impact future treatments. We may re-prescribe a drug that produced a partial or complete remission in the past, or avoid medications that did not work or produced excessive side effects.

To help track your response to chemotherapy, we keep a detailed electronic health record. This record can be easily accessed by all of your Florida Medical Clinic physicians, ensuring a seamless continuity of care.
