Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury Treatment

ACL Injury Treatment

A torn ACL is a complex injury that requires prompt treatment. While surgery is the only way to completely repair a torn ligament, some individuals may find that they are able to strengthen their knee through surgical rehabilitation and return to a non-strenuous lifestyle without undergoing an operation.

At Florida Medical Clinic, we work one-on-one with each patient to help them determine the best approach to ACL injury treatment. We offer a full range of surgical and non-surgical treatment options, including:

  • Physical therapy
  • Bracing
  • Surgical reconstruction (tissue grafting)
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation

In regards to ACL surgery, we perform ACL reconstruction (grafting) surgery, as well as repair surgery for avulsion fractures. Our orthopedic surgeons are highly experienced with both traditional and minimally invasive techniques, tailoring each patient’s treatment plan to his or her unique needs. Patients who are good candidates for minimally invasive (arthroscopic) surgery may benefit from shorter recovery times, a lower risk of complications, and a quicker return to normal activity.

While prompt treatment is ideal, surgery is not usually scheduled immediately after ACL injury. Instead, a patient’s operation may be planned several weeks after the initial injury. This allows swelling to go down and range of motion to return prior to surgical treatment. During this period, Florida Medical Clinic’s orthopedic specialists can order advanced imaging tests and perform several physical assessments to ensure each patient’s treatment plan is tailored to his or her unique situation.
