FOUNDATION OF CARING HOSTS ART SHOW
“The Art of Healing”
For an ordinary artist, painting becomes a means of
expression. But for these eight particular artists, painting is a form
of healing. Mary Sears, a local artist, began painting
again after a 20 year sabbatical, during her 6 months of chemotherapy.
Sears, diagnosed with breast cancer, wanted to share her passion for art
with other healing cancer survivors in the Zephyrhills/Dade City area.
The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring provided Sears with art
supplies and easels to help initiate the Art Program. With 8-10
students, she began teaching classes once a week at Florida Medical
Clinic in January 2005. While the class took a short summer break,
they resumed in January 2006. Cancer survivors from as far away as
Maine and as close as Blanton, meet weekly at FMC to use art as a
natural healing balm.
Sears and her student artists will showcase their works of art at a
sidewalk art show, “The Art of Healing” on April 12, 2006.
The class plans to show more than 40 pieces of work in pencil,
watercolors, pastels and oils. The show will be held at Florida
Medical Clinic in Zephyrhills from 11am-2pm and is open to the
public for free. Meet the artists, enjoy punch and cookies and
explore your inner artist. For more questions, please call The
Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring at 813-783-9932.
